Thinking about buying a 05 450r. Anyone have any input? It would be used for aggresive trail riding and racing around at St Joe and little sahara this fall/winter. I currently have a raptor 660. I would keep it also and ride either with my son.

from what i have read, and the research i did when buying my bike this spring i decided to pass on the 450r. i am a huge honda fan, i have owned honda all my life, but the yfz just seemed to fit me better. I also was not turned on by the front plastic of the 450r. from what i have seen of the 450r, straight out of the box its the fastest 450 bike made. but it usually gets ate up by the yfz and suzuki when you mix speed and trails. but you how honda is, they keep going and going and going. it will be interesting to see if they go to fuel injection like suzuki and kawasaki have done.

Hi. . .this post was done a while ago but thought just in case you have not purchased, I would share my opinion. We have an 07 ltr450 and an 05 450r. First off we changed both front sprochets from 14 to 13. This gives a bit more torq. The ltr has a cherry bomb and the baffle out (lots of cosmetic mods too). The Honda has a HMF exhaust, jetted, uni filter (and some other little mods). Now drag racing down the highway, the ltr wins by a couple bikes. The 450r is a wheelie machine. The 450r is freakin' awesome in the sand, we have yet to get the ltr to little sahara. Oh yah, my cousin has the Kawi450 . . we spank him every time. He is a great rider but if you do not need that reverse, and don't like to loose . . I wouldn't go with the Kawi. Dirtwheels did a 450 shootout, the YFZ seemed to come out on top. They liked the Kawi but honestly, I think it is a turd. Well my cousin has ordered exhaust so maybe he will be able to keep up.

Old post I know, this could start a war of this one verse's that one but Ryan have you checked Can-am's NEW 2008 450 out. Here is a link Can-Am 450

Now I have rode this beast and have rode Kawa, Suzuki, Honda ALL stock cannot compare to this thing. It has been beefed up to the max and powered down. Word out there is If you where to open exhaust up, few odd and end changes and the cdi/computer upgrade it will top out at over 110mph..... If you care to go that fast...

What I have read to date in all major mag's is side by side STOCK no one can beat it but that is just what I have read, not seen.

Price is very compareable to others, warranty is freaking amazing compared and at least my dealer is great at reapiring. Taking my outlander 800 in Sat for warranty update on the CVT cover.

I own Honda/ Suzuki/ Yamaha and Can-AM so have a mix, love the Can-Am for everything except going in the water, to big. For that my Snorkeled Modded up Honda Rubicon 500 does the trick.. Wife's Grizzly does it better but it will slip the belt if in the water too long, Honda... he he he Won't....... Don't have one....
