ACCT to MCCT 2007/05/13 06:46 Karma: 0
First for the unknowing

ACCT = Automatic Cam Chain Tensioner
MCCT = Manual Cam Chain Tensioner

This is a note and a warning to anyone and all....

Early Bikes and atvs now mind you NOT all, more so on Suzuki's and Honda's if my memory serves me correctly and more so prior to 2005 had a questionable ACCT. The problem comes in to play more often when service intervals are not frequent and/or going from full bore all out to idle. What happens is the ACCT expands to tighten the timing chain up on high oil pressure (from full bore riding to drastic slow down) and stretches the chain to the max limit of travel. Then you take off full bore again and it lossens up.

Doing this is normal operation of the ACCT BUT it does it so much, so often guess what, the chain snaps. What happens then is very bad. Heads crack, pistons eat valves, blocks crack and day is over

It is not a question of if it will do it but when it will do it.

Nieghbor boy has a 2005 Honda 250 dirt bike, races it. Just last weekend, boom, block destroyed by ACCT letting go.

I own a 2001 Suzuki DRZ 400E, it had one I changed over to a MCCT. When I took it out it showed signs of being very close to destruction time.

Now I do not endorse nor am affiliated in any way but as far as I know there is only 1 place to get a MCCT from and that is here http://shop.thumpertalk.com/. I have tried all my local dealers and none knew what I was talking about, factory parts only.

I would higly suggest you see if your bike/atv has a ACCT and if so think of changing it over, I did and have done to all I own. Easy install, fair price for the peace of mind it gives.

Can give my install way in here if asked to do so as it is fairly big write up....
